Set up Reddit ad campaigns targeted by community
Pick the communities where your product is already discussed, and Mecrio AI drafts the post title for you to approve. The campaign is created paused in your own Reddit ad account, so nothing spends until you start it.
When is Reddit Ads a good fit, and when isn't it?
Reddit is organized into communities, also called subreddits, and ads appear as posts in the feed and on comment pages. That puts your ad next to conversations about a specific interest. It works best for products and topics that an identifiable group already talks about, such as games, software, hobby gear or niche consumer goods. You can target communities by name, exclude the ones you don't want, and add Reddit's interest categories and keywords. Image, video and carousel posts can all be built, and the post title is the only text on the ad, so it carries the whole message. Reddit is not the right fit if you need to target by age, because it doesn't offer age targeting for ads. It is also not the right fit if you want to choose your audience by the Turkish language: Turkish isn't one of the languages Reddit lets you target. On lead campaigns, Reddit also turns off gender targeting.
How Reddit Ads works in Mecrio
Mecrio creates a campaign, an ad group and an ad in your own Reddit ad account. On Reddit the ad is a post: Mecrio publishes it from the Reddit profile linked to your ad account, with your title, your image, video or carousel, and your link. Communities and interests are picked from Reddit's own lists. All three are created paused, and nothing spends until you start them. Afterwards you can change the budget, start or pause, and replace the post's title or image from Mecrio.
A Reddit Ads campaign in four steps
Set up
Tell Mecrio about your product or service and Mecrio AI drafts the copy and audience for you to edit and approve. Create visuals in Mecrio or use your own.
Check and approve
Mecrio checks your ads before they go live and tells you if anything is missing or needs a fix. You preview how they'll look on each platform and approve when you're ready.
Publish
Once approved, your campaign is set up in your own ad account on each platform and waits until you start it. You decide where and when it goes live.
Manage
Bring in the campaigns already running on your platforms. Update budgets, dates and targeting while they're live, and compare results in one report.
Which campaign objectives can you set up?
The objective you pick is set up as its Reddit Ads equivalent. The table shows what Mecrio can set up end to end on this platform.

What gets checked for Reddit Ads before you publish?
A setting the platform won't accept is named before the campaign is created, along with where to fix it.
- Reddit video ads need a cover image. If it's missing, Mecrio stops before anything is created on Reddit, so you aren't left with a half-built campaign.
- If your Reddit ad account has no payment method, Mecrio stops at the first step and tells you to add one in Reddit Ads; no campaign is created.
- The web address shown on your ad is taken from each card's own link, because Reddit rejects an ad whose shown address points to a different site than the click.
- A landing page address on Reddit can be at most 268 characters. A longer one is flagged before publishing, because Reddit would reject the post.
- On lead campaigns Reddit only accepts a manual click bid, so Mecrio asks you for the amount before publishing instead of making one up.
Reddit Ads: frequently asked questions
Can I target specific subreddits?
Yes. Search communities by name and add the ones you want, and exclude communities where your ad shouldn't appear; Reddit's interest categories and keywords can be added on top. If you turn on audience expansion, Reddit may also show the ad to people similar to your picks.
Can I target by age on Reddit?
No. Reddit doesn't offer age targeting for ads. If you set an age range in Mecrio, you're told it won't be applied on Reddit; it isn't dropped silently.
Do I need a Reddit Pixel?
Yes. Reddit requires a Pixel on every ad group: pick yours during setup, or Mecrio uses the first Pixel in your Reddit ad account. If the account has none, create one in Reddit Ads before publishing.
Can I change the title or image after the ad goes live?
Yes. Reddit doesn't allow editing a published ad post, so Mecrio creates a new post with your change and puts it into the same ad. The campaign, ad group, audience and results stay where they are.
Which Reddit profile posts the ad?
On Reddit an ad is a post, so it needs a profile. Mecrio publishes it from the Reddit profile linked to your ad account; if no profile is linked, the ad can't be created and Mecrio tells you so.
